The indictment relates to real estate in which Mr. Morrison allegedly had an undisclosed and prohibited interest while serving as a University of Akron trustee, and which the University sought to acquire. The indictment was filed in the Summit County Court of Common Pleas under case number 08-30-0091. The indictment resulted from an Ohio Ethics Commission investigation initially requested jointly by the University of Akron and Trustee Jack Morrison, Jr. The Ohio Ethics Commission by statute works with the local prosecuting attorney on investigating possible violations by individuals who live in the prosecuting attorney’s jurisdiction. Cases are required to be presented to the Grand Jury for possible indictment procedures. The Ohio Rules of Criminal Procedure permit Misdemeanor charges that have been indicted by a Grand Jury to be tried in Common Pleas Court. Two attorneys from the Ohio Ethics Commission and one attorney from the Summit County Prosecutors Office will be prosecuting the case. -- 30 -- |
