FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

OHIO ETHICS COMMISSION WELCOMES STEVEN DETTELBACH

The Ohio Ethics Commission welcomes a new member appointed by Governor Ted Strickland to serve on the six-member, bi-partisan Commission.  The new Commissioner is Steven M. Dettelbach from Cleveland, Ohio.

Mr. Dettelbach is a partner in the Litigation, Legislative and Regulatory Practice Groups at the law firm of Baker Hostetler.  He previously served as a federal prosecutor for the U.S. Department of Justice and two U.S. Attorney offices, most recently in the Northern District of Ohio.  Mr. Dettelbach also worked for the United States Senate and has taught at the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law as an adjunct faculty member.  He attended Dartmouth College as an undergraduate and received his law degree from Harvard Law School.

The Ethics Commission is an independent state oversight agency charged with interpreting and administering the Ohio Ethics Law for an estimated 590,000 state and local public officials and employees.  The six-member, bi-partisan Commission is required by law to have an equal number of Democratic and Republican members.  Each member is appointed by the Governor to serve a six-year term, subject to confirmation by the Ohio Senate.  Members are compensated $75 per meeting, to a maximum of $1,800 per year.  Mr. Dettelbach was appointed to a Democratic seat on the Commission.  The Ohio Ethics Commission was created thirty-five years ago, in 1973, when the Ethics Law was enacted.
