ETHICS COMMISSION ELECTS BEN ROSE AS CHAIR

At its meeting on January 23, 2009, the Ohio Ethics Commission unanimously elected Ben Rose of Lima, Ohio as its Chair. Mr. Rose is a former member of the Ohio House of Representatives and has a private law practice. Mr. Rose has served on the Commission since 2006.

Commission member Shirley Mays of Delaware, Ohio was elected Vice-Chair. Ms. Mays is the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and Associate Professor of Law at the Capital University Law School. Dean Mays was appointed to the Ethics Commission in 2008.

Ohio was one of the first states to create an Ethics Commission more than 35 years ago, upon the enactment of the Ohio Ethics Law in 1973. The Commission independently applies and administers the Ethics Law on behalf of the public for most state and local public officials and employees outside of those serving in the legislature and judiciary.
