Requesting an opinion for yourself
If you need guidance about the Ethics Law and related statutes as they
apply to an action you are considering, you can request an advisory
opinion. You can write to the Commission, setting forth the question
you wish to ask, and providing any other relevant information. Please
provide a telephone number or e-mail address so Commission staff can
contact you with any follow-up questions. Because opinions provide immunity,
there is a significant demand for them, and it may take time for you
to receive your answer. If you need an answer by a particular time,
please mention that in your request. The Commission staff will attempt
to accommodate reasonable requests for guidance.
Send your request to:

Requesting an opinion about someone else
The Commission cannot provide advisory opinions in response to questions about
someone other than the requester. If you have a question about the possible
actions of another person, you can request general information from
the Commission.
Requesting an opinion about an action already taken
The Commission cannot provide advisory opinions in response to questions about actions that have already been taken. If you have a question about an action that has already been taken, you can request general information from the Commission.
